Treating Dental Emergencies

Root Canal Therapy

When infection or inflammation reaches the inside of a tooth, root canal therapy may allow us to treat the problem while preserving your natural tooth. Keeping the tooth also helps preserve the surrounding bone, gums, and supporting tissues that hold it in place. The damaged or infected tissue is removed, and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned, disinfected, and sealed.

Tooth Extraction

Our goal is to preserve your natural teeth whenever reasonably possible. When a tooth is severely damaged, fractured, or infected and cannot be predictably restored, extraction may be the appropriate treatment to relieve the problem and protect your oral health.

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth can sometimes cause pain, infection, swelling, or damage to neighboring teeth. Dr. Dixon can evaluate the problem and determine whether removal is appropriate or whether referral to a specialist would be the better option.

What Should I Do During a Dental Emergency?

If you’re experiencing a dental emergency, call Foundation Dental as soon as possible so we can help you determine what to do next. Until you can be seen, gently rinse your mouth with water and avoid chewing on the affected area. If a tooth is broken, save any pieces you can find and bring them with you.

If a permanent tooth has been knocked out, handle it by the crown rather than the root. If possible, gently place it back into its socket without forcing it. If you cannot, keep the tooth moist in milk and seek dental care immediately—the sooner a knocked-out tooth is treated, the better the chance of saving it.

If you have severe facial swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding, or significant facial trauma, seek immediate medical attention.
